United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 5 Founded in 1949 and headquartered in Hayward, UFCW Northern California Meat Apprenticeship Trust Fund is a non-traditional Apprenticeship program. The current program sponsored by UFCW Northern California Meat Joint Apprenticeship Committee was formed by a merger of three separate Joint Apprenticeship Training Committees (JATC) in Local 5 and Local 8: Humboldt & Del Norte Meat Cutters, Oakland & Vicinity Meat Industry, and Santa Clara County Meat Cutters.
Leigha Tubbs It was a long road, but with the assistance of UFCW Meat Apprenticeship Program, Leigha Tubbs has arrived at a bright new career. After starting out in the food service at Raley’s, she made her way to the meat department. She soon began instruction at the UFCW Northern California Meat Apprenticeship program, taking classes every Tuesday night for nine months. In addition to bookwork and classroom study, the program included visits to UFCW-affiliated meat processing facilities.
